Already the premiere destination for figure skating coverage online, icenetwork.com is positioned to become the most extensive online resource for speedskating fans leading up to the 2014 Olympic Games. Having acquired the U.S. media rights in January for the International Skating Union (ISU), which includes figure skating and speedskating events around the world, icenetwork.com will add extensive coverage of the sport of speedskating. Editorial coverage, including news, photo galleries, event results, athlete bios and more, will launch Aug. 22-25, 2013, in conjunction with icenetwork.com’s streaming coverage of the U.S. Short Track Single Distance Championships.
“Icenetwork.com’s audience of avid skating fans makes it the ideal platform for US Speedskating to effectively reach our audience and promote excitement and anticipation for the upcoming Olympic Games,” said Mark Greenwald, executive director of US Speedskating. “Making speedskating events available to a wider audience is an important platform for us and is something we have worked hard to see come to fruition. It is a game changer in my opinion."
Prominent speedskating personalities will join the broadcasts as commentators, providing expert analysis and insight into the athletes’ journeys to the 2014 Olympics. Details on the team of commentators, a full icenetwork.com speedskating broadcast schedule and subscription information for the Long Track World Cup will be announced at a later date.
“Icenetwork.com is excited to enter into this partnership with US Speedskating,” Ramsey Baker, icenetwork.com general manager, said. “Although in the past icenetwork.com’s focus has solely been on figure skating, we are honored to partner with a sport that has captured a record-breaking 85 Olympic medals. We hope speedskating enthusiasts around the world will enjoy what icenetwork.com will bring to their fan experience.”
