In this position, Art will be responsible for the management of Smith's global distribution logistics, reverse logistics, anti-counterfeiting efforts, and corporate sustainability.
In his new role, Art will undertake strategies to oversee the continuous development and expansion of Smith's global anti-counterfeiting methods, including the continual review of Smith's global testing facilities’ equipment and the processes and procedures that ensure that uniform implementation and methodologies are followed at all Smith locations. These responsibilities go hand-in-hand with his efforts to ensure uniform standards compliance based on the numerous certifications and accreditations that Smith holds, including ISO 9001 and 14001, ANSI-ESD, CCAP-101, AS9120, and ISO/IEC 17025. Overseeing Smith's life cycle management, strategic sourcing, inventory management for both internal and external customers, global distribution logistics, reverse logistics, and corporate sustainability management strategies rounds out the key responsibilities Art will be undertaking in this new position.
Before stepping into his current role, Art served as Smith’s Director of Security and Facilities since his 2004 hiring. Among his major accomplishments in this role are his management of the Smith headquarters' "Greenovation" project, which won the overall award for Greatest Implementation of Green Building Innovations in the City of Houston's 2012 Green Office Challenge, and his initiating of practices that protect Smith against fraud and counterfeit transactions. During Art's tenure at Smith, he has also played central and critical roles in the development and expansion of Smith's various quality management systems. Prior to joining Smith, Art was in management at Securitas Security Services and Questia. He received his BA in Political Science from the University of Houston in 1994, and is a member of TAPA Americas.
“Art has been an integral figure supporting Smith’s stability, security, and environmental initiatives for years,” said Matt Hartzell, Smith’s Chief Operating Officer, “and the experience he brings with him will be an asset in this new role. Under Art’s leadership, Smith will continually refine our strategies and focus our resources on quality issues, leveraging our leading role in anti-counterfeiting and quality assurance to safeguard our customers and the supply chain as a whole.”
