PRMA Expands its Breast Reconstruction Team, Welcomes 7th Surgeon
San Antonio, TX (PRWEB) August 07, 2013 -- What started as a two surgeon breast reconstruction practice in 1994, is now a team of seven. PRMA, one of the leading breast reconstruction practices in the World, is proud to welcome its 7th reconstructive surgeon, Dr. Jessica Belz.
PRMA has performed over 5,500 state-of-the-art breast reconstruction procedures on patients that have undergone mastectomy after breast cancer. The group welcomes patients from across Texas, around the country, and from across the World.
Belz said the decision to join PRMA was easy and hopes that her extensive training and background in breast reconstruction will be an asset to the group.
“My passion is breast reconstruction and making women whole again after breast cancer,” said Belz. “I’m excited to be a part of one of the best breast reconstruction teams in the World and look forward to helping women get their lives back.”
Belz, a San Antonio native, left Texas to study at Princeton University where she graduated summa cum laude in 2002. She was selected as a Fulbright Scholar after graduating and had the opportunity to participate in research studies in Berlin, Germany.
Belz received her medical degree after returning to the US at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, where she earned a Gamble Scholarship. Belz said that it was her positive experiences and fulfilling interactions with breast cancer patients at Penn that fueled her decision to focus her career on breast reconstruction.
Belz’ academic journey then took her to the Midwest where she completed her residency in plastic and reconstructive surgery at one of the nation’s preeminent programs—Washington University in St. Louis and Barnes Jewish Hospital.
She continued her training in Grand Rapids, MI where she completed a highly competitive aesthetic and reconstructive breast surgery fellowship with one of the world’s most recognized authorities in breast surgery, Dr. Dennis Hammond.
Her specialized training led her to PRMA where she joins plastic surgeons Peter Ledoux, Steven Pisano, Chet Nastala, Minas Chrysopoulo, Gary Arishita, and Oscar Ochoa, performing the latest microsurgical breast reconstruction techniques.
Dr Belz is available for appointments starting September 1 at PRMA’s Medical Center office, 9635 Huebner Road, San Antonio, TX 78240.
