Tornado Survey Asks if More Expensive is Always Better?
Chicago, IL (PRWEB) August 01, 2013 -- An online survey, completed the first week of July 2013, asked building service contractors (BSCs) and other cleaning professionals if they found that a more costly vacuum cleaner tends to hold up better and need less service and repair than a less expensive machine.
Of the 68 people who participated in the survey, approximately 60 percent answered no. The remaining respondents were not sure or found that a more costly machine tended to hold up better without needing service or repair.*
Related to this, the participants were evenly divided when asked if they thought a more expensive vacuum cleaner tends to last longer than a less expensive model.
The survey was conducted for Tornado Industries, a leading manufacturer of commercial upright and backpack vacuum cleaners.
According to Jolynn Kennedy, marketing director for Tornado, while the survey is not scientific and for informational purposes only, "Enough cleaning professionals participated [in the survey] that it at least offers some insight as to the thoughts and beliefs likely shared by many in the professional cleaning industry."
When asked, "On average, how often do you have to service a commercial vacuum cleaner," the following were the responses:
- About 60 percent indicated every three to six months
- A little more than 20 percent responded about once per year
- The remainder were evenly divided between "every two years" and "rarely, if at all."
Finally, the participants were asked how often they must replace a vacuum cleaner:
- 20 percent indicated they replace vacuum cleaners every five years
- 40 percent purchase new vacuum cleaners every three to five years.
- Another 40 percent reported they replace vacuum cleaners about every one or two years.
"Cleaning professionals must also realize that how they handle a commercial vacuum cleaner can have a big impact on how long it lasts and the amount of service it needs," adds Kennedy. "Some gentle care can go a long way with most commercial vacuum cleaners, helping them operate for longer periods without needing repair."
- All percentages are rounded up and do not necessarily equal 100.
