4th Annual Lake Conway Wipeout Event to Benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Sponsored by Orlando Dock Builder- Fender Marine Construction Nets $10,000
Orlando, Fl (PRWEB) August 30, 2013 -- Rick Fender of Fender Marine Construction, one of the sponsors, was interviewed for this article. “Lake Conway Wipeout was started in 2010 by a few friends who enjoy water, boats, and laughter,” explained Fender. Rick Fender, an Orlando Dock Builder, stated that after the founders of the event watched ABC-TV's show Wipeout one night, a Facebook conversation turned into brainstorming their own version of “Wipeout on Lake Conway.”
“2013 marks the event’s fourth year, and it has grown from a few boating friends to over 300 boats and over 1,000 spectators making it one of the largest boating events in the state of Florida,” said Fender. Fender went on to say “the 4th annual Lake Conway Wipeout took place Saturday, July 13th, 2013, from noon until 5:00pm at the sandbar on Lake Conway in Orlando and was so much fun.” Rick Fender went further to explain that the event is only accessible by boat, but Lake Conway does have public boat ramps, a lot of boat docks and boat houses.
Fender said, “organizers set up an inflatable obstacle course at Lake Conway’s sandbar and participants run the course to see who gets the best time in different categories such as men and women. Then the top finishers get prize packages provided by local sponsors. It is a great family event and kids run the course the first two hours of the event.”
“In 2012, the organizers decided to make Wipeout a charity event,” Fender reported. “One of the event founders, Brandy Bryant, has Leukemia and raises money every year for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Light the Night Walk campaign,” said Fender. “It was the perfect choice to be the event charity. The event is free but attendees are encouraged to donate to support the charity. In 2012, the event donated $3,000 to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. This year, the donation tripled to over $10,000,” said Rick Fender.
Rick Fender explained, “the event is sponsored by local businesses and boat dealers.” Rick Fender, the Vice President of Fender Marine Construction was a Silver sponsor and he reported that the Platinum sponsors for 2013 include Tommy's of Florida, Regal & Nautique of Orlando, MarineMax, Otown Tan, and Custom Installers Security.
