Professor at The School of Internet Marketing and President of Halyard Consulting, Jonathan Goodman, talked about recently returning from a week's vacation and made that the focal point for his podcast on July 22nd, 2013. During his main topic feature, Goodman spoke about the importance of taking a vacation even when work is continuing to pile up.

"This is why we're here. We're here to enjoy life." – Jonathan Goodman

Goodman talked about the issues that plague many entrepreneurs who run their own businesses. First, there is the problem with getting important work caught up to prepare for the vacation. It can often seem as if it is not worth it when so much has to get done. Then, there is the problem of wading through overflowing inboxes and returning calls once the vacation is over to catch up on what has gotten behind. However, according to Goodman, the extra work that a vacation causes is worth the time one allows for de-stressing during the actual time off.

Goodman further advised against waiting until retirement to enjoy a vacation, which is often the mindset of busy business owners and other career-minded people. The time spent away from work is necessary to rejuvenate for the hectic times. Even working vacations such as conferences and seminars do not count as true time off. Instead of looking at vacations as time spent away from a business, it should be seen as an essential part of running a business to keep one's focus and mind alert.
