(PRWEB) August 06, 2013 -- Prepping seems to be big business these days with National Geographic claims of over 4 million regular viewers and growing.
While most people may sit back and laugh at some of the eccentricities being played out on TV, it is also worth while noting that this is a growth industry and many millions of people from America, Canadia, Australia and the UK take this "doomsday preparation business" very seriously.
In the wake of the TV series run by National Geographic, it is also worth while noting that a whole bunch of "Prepper" websites have also sprung up on top of the more established sites. Some good, some bad, some plain ugly.
After reviewing dozens of Prepper Websites, it is a wonder how many people will actually survive any catastrophic event utilizing the pseudo-advice on show in some of these websites.
In the opinion of Larry Kosis from PreppersNewsletter.com many of the Prepper websites are written by lounge lizard people who read books or watch a movie and think that this makes them an authority on survival, sadly most of their readers will fail at a time when failure is not an option.
In wake of the TV series run by National Geographic (and the new episodes coming mid-August) many websites have sprung up which appear to be written by people who do not have much is any experience in survival.
While there are some great sites "out there" written by professionals who are experienced in bush craft, by people who actually live the life they preach about, there are many more "money making" web sites offering "Clique People" their weekly "prepper fix" often without giving them any real substantial or quality information.
SMARTER PREPPERS
If Preppers want to really survive, most of them will need to get smarter.
The People who will have the most chance of survival will be those who live above 1,000 feet and who are part of a team and regularly train to work as a team, just like the Infantry where each soldier puts their life in their buddies' hands.
They will be people who constantly learn about techniques and practice "hands on" survival skills and who actually go out as a group and practice surviving in nature on a regular basis and not dream about it in their minds.
It is critical to find credible information which is written by someone who has lived the life they write about.
Fortunately, one such credible website is conveniently called http://www.PreppersNewsletter.com which draws on many of the owners personal and military experiences and research from almost 40 years.
Time for a Reality Check Folks. Dis-information is dangerous to Preppers long term health.
Think about this. The life of every member of a Preppers group will depend upon what they "actually know" about "real time" survival in the "real world" whether it is the Jungle, Desert, Tundra or open Farmland environment. These skills do not include cracking another beer and laying back on your lounge with the remote.
All kinds of information will be valuable such as avoiding the 29 known "Bigfoot Hotspots" in the Continental USA and more in Canada and Alaska. Why settle in an area which has a high child disappearance statistic?
Most of these TV shows like National Geographic's "Doomsday Preppers" are about people going off and either living alone or with just their immediate family and most of these "lone wolf" Preppers will be some of the first to be killed or worse by militia and marauders. The main reason is because they will only have 1 primary defender, the father.
Spoilt children will also be a liability. If you have smart kids who are competent readers, you can have a stock pile of books to pre-occupy their minds.
Preppers need to learn a lesson from nature: The reason that wolves are so successful is because they work as a team.
One of the first things you learn in the Infantry is that there is no "I" in TEAM.
After reading some websites which recommend watching TV shows like "The Walking Dead" as a blueprint for dealing with Doomsday Zombie scenarios, you have to wonder how many of these writers have "front line" combat experience or even a brain?
Ask yourself this. How many of these people have actually lived off the land for years, crapping in the jungle like a bear, having ice cold showers for years which were so cold that a cloud of steam arose every time they poured a bucket of water over their head? Where Mr Happy and his buddies retracted so far north that you thought you had the mumps.
How many of these writers have starved for days at a time because the food they were hunting was scarce and it was too far to go to the "shop"?
Many people think that they will continue to live the same life after The Event as they did before The Event; just a few weeks inconvenience living in a shipping container or bunker and then back home to their house or apartment, minus a few neighbors.
Many prepper websites are advising people to store things like Hexamine which are highly toxic, carcinogenic and just downright dangerous to their long term health, especially in confined spaces.
