Tamata’s Unique Mature Japanese Maple Specimen Trees Arrive in the UK
London (PRWEB UK) 2 August 2013 -- Tamata, a New Zealand grower of mature Japanese Maple specimen trees, this week had their annual import of mature and unique specimens arrive in the UK, following a six week sea voyage. This year’s import consisted of 170 trees comprising 15 varieties; six of which are available for the first time.
Within this year’s arrivals are new maple varieties previously difficult to obtain in the UK in a mature specimen form. The new dissectum varieties are the green dwarf Acer ‘Shidava Gold’, the purple and green variegated dissectum ‘Toyama Nishiki’, and the delicately leafed dissectum ‘Filigree’.
The new upright varieties are the ‘Sangokaku’, renowned for its vivid coral coloured bark (especially effective in winter); ‘Osakazuki’, which perhaps possesses the most intense autumn colour (crimson) of all maples; and the multi-stemmed ‘Skeeter’s Broom’, which is about four metres in height.
“It is always exciting when new trees arrive at the nursery, considering how far they have come. It is also interesting to see the new varieties that we have not had previously. I think the Emerald Lace variety in its feathered and pillar forms will be of particular interest to nurseries and garden designers.” said Patrick McDaid, UK Market Manager for Tamata.
Following this year’s import, Tamata’s extensive and distinctive product range in the UK now numbers over 500 trees and 25 varieties. The size of the Japanese maples ranges from 45L to 200L, and the forms include single stem, multi-stem, feathered and ½ standard.
Each year, Tamata carefully select only those trees meeting the highest specification for export to the United Kingdom. New Zealand’s Ministry of Agriculture & Forestry oversees the regulatory requirements of UK government agencies such as DEFRA and FERA to monitor, inspect, test and sanction Tamata’s product. Tamata’s rigorous attention to compliance with biological and chemical regulations, coupled with the ability to trace each tree back to the nursery block in which it was grown, provides Tamata customers with a high degree of confidence in the quality and specification of the product.
As mature specimens, Tamata’s trees are used for planting (in pots or in the ground) within up-market design projects where the desired effect is an instant “established” garden. Additionally, an assortment of mature Acers planted together provides an attractive grouping with contrasting colour and shape. Alternatively, some of the larger specimens such as Bloodgood, Trompenburg and Skeeter’s Broom are well suited to park, estate or amenity plantings, again providing the instant solution.
