On August 1, NewVo Beauty responds to an article regarding the recent growth of men who embrace hair and skin care regimens.

According to an article published on NWITIMES on July 28th, titled “HIRSUTE OR NOT HIRSUTE: Men are shaving and coloring more as presentation matters,” although not all men are opting for a scruffy haircut or a slicked-back style, they are starting to use more beauty products.

Men are visiting salons more, says salon owner Aaron David, who was quoted in the article. He adds that they are interested in both cut and color, and are concerned most with “thinning hair and receding hairlines—regardless of the age of the client.”

The article says the concern with being considered a metrosexual is long gone. This concept was created by ad agencies who wanted to concentrate on the male demographic, but failed. These days, men are concerned with grooming and not with the association of being a “grooming and fashion obsessed male.”

Male only salons have become increasingly more popular, according to the article. One salon, HALO, was detailed in the article as having exceptional growth over the past few years. Owner Rober Patrizi’s partner, Liz Vitellaro, was quoted in the article as saying, “The idea was that Bob wanted to create a place where men could feel comfortable getting any grooming service they needed, from cut to color to manicures.” The salon has grown to six salons around Chicago.

Some men, however, still opt for the perfect barbershop cut and shave. Salons like the Belmont Barber Shop in Chicago specialize in classic cuts and razor shaves, but can also do popular styles like pompadours.

“Whether you’re trying to keep that super sophisticated look or just looking to get a classic cut, there is always a need for great beauty products to help attain these styles,” says Sara Greenstone, a representative for flat irons retailer NewVo Beauty. “The increase in males who are looking for products for their post-salon visit is apparent. A beauty supply store has become a place for both men and women to find great beauty products.”
