Mobile Meals Bring Healthy Foods to Kids Facing Hunger
Columbia, MD (PRWEB) August 07, 2013 -- Children who receive free and reduced price school breakfasts and lunches often face an increased risk of hunger in the summer months. A public-private partnership led by national anti-childhood hunger nonprofit Share Our Strength has created a solution at Penn Mar Apartments in Forestville, MD. Children have been receiving free, daily lunches on days when they are not in summer school.
The program is the result of a collaboration of AHD/Equity Management Joint Venture, the http://www..pgcps.org/ [Prince George’s County Public Schools __title__ Prince George's County Public Schools], the County Executive’s office, the State Senator’s office and Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry® campaign. The staff at Penn Mar Apartments supervises these daily lunches and has seen tremendous success with this program.
"The summer meals program is a win-win all around. It fills a need for healthy summer meals for over twenty children at Penn Mar Apartments. Our staff gets the added benefit of getting to know some of our wonderful kids better, and our kids get to hang out together in a supervised environment. We and our residents are thankful to all the organizations that help make this a reality!" said Duncan Ferguson, Director of Resident Services, and Equity Management.
AHD/Equity Management JV has several other properties in Prince Georges County participating in the summer meals program.
An event is planned in August to recognize and celebrate the collaboration between the participating organizations.
