Kids II® Proudly Supports the 2nd Annual Collins Dixon Bend Your Knees Run to Raise Awareness and Research Money for Fighting Childhood Cancer
(PRWEB) August 01, 2013 -- Kids II® is proud to support the 2nd Annual Collins Dixon Bend Your Knees Run again this year. The 5K walk/run was held to raise awareness and crucial research money to help fight childhood cancer.
“Our company and employees are committed to making a difference in the lives of children and their families, not just with products, but in everything we do,” said Tara King, the Director of Corporate Communications at Kids II.
The run took place on July 13, 2013. It began at 8 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Canton, and attracted nearly 800 participants.
Twelve-year-old Collins Dixon passed away in January 2012 after battling an aggressive and rare brain cancer. The date of the run was scheduled 18 months after Collins lost his battle with cancer and one week before what would have been his 14th birthday.
Proceeds raised from the race went to the Bend Your Knees foundation and the Brain Tumor Foundation Collins Dixon memorial fund. Through the funds raised last year, the foundation was able to help three local Cherokee County families and others in Georgia, Tennessee and Louisiana.
The Bend Your Knees Foundation was started in memory of Collins. The non-profit’s mission is to spread awareness of brain tumors in children, help other families who are struggling with childhood brain cancer, and support other organizations that work with children with brain tumors, including the Brain Tumor Foundation for Children.
This year’s event featured the 5K Raider Run and the 1 Mile Brave Run/Walk, as well as other activities, including a “Fun Zone” and Silent Auction.
