Long Beach International Film Festival’s Founders Proclaim: “The Show Must Go On!”; Presenting “Shorts on the Beach” Film Series
Long Beach, NY (PRWEB) August 05, 2013 -- We may not have a movie theatre, but we will have movies and celebrate the arts in Long Beach, NY!
Walk the red carpet on the new Long Beach Boardwalk, and view short films beach-side with the stars—under the stars! The evening’s events will be followed by an awards ceremony at the Allegria Hotel.
The Long Beach International Film Festival (LBIFF) will hold its “Shorts on the Beach” Film Series on August 22 & 23 in Long Beach, NY. The event serves as a platform to promote the arts on Long Island by LBIFF Co-Founder’s Craig Weintraub and Ingrid Dodd.
Last year, the kickoff festival attracted 1,500 Long Islanders and saluted Long Beach’s own Scott Franklin, producer of Black Swan, the Wrestler, and the highly anticipated Noah, currently in production.
Following such inaugural success and prior to Superstorm Sandy, the Festival’s Founders began planning a three-day film festival. Due to the decimated Long Beach Movie Theatre and Boardwalk, there had to be a change in plans. Rather than cancel with all the obstacles in the way, they decided “The show must go on!” The tradition will continue with the free short film series on August 22nd, 2013.
This year’s festival will showcase a variety of short films that are 15 minutes long or less, and begins at 7:00 p.m., providing film enthusiasts with a sneak peek into LBIFF 2014—which is planned to be a multi-day event.
A live music performance by Mike Krum, will set the festive tone followed by the short film screenings at 8:20 p.m. As an added attraction all guests are invited to walk the red carpet at National Blvd & the Boardwalk starting at 7:00 p.m.
The Filmmakers Lounge on the beach will be invitation only for filmmakers and industry executives to network, and also gather information on filming and digital post production right here in Nassau County.
Official selections will be announced on Facebook August 5th- 8th 2013.
Additional sponsors enthusiastic to support the LBIFF are News 12, Zico, King Kullen, Skudin Surf, Webair, Elovich and Adel Law Firm, Blu Chip Marketing, Live it Up Live with Donna Drake, Weintraub Films, 25A Magazine, Kravitz Jewelers, Party Hardy Entertainment, Echo Agency, Peanut Butter Co. and Red Door Spas.
A portion of our proceeds will be benefiting the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation. Donations will be accepted upon entry to the beach on National Blvd.
Nassau County, one of this year's sponsors, and the City of Long Beach show interest in the promising creative prospect for the popular coastal area. “Nassau County has always been a supporter of independent and studio films, and it’s our pleasure to bring this type of entertainment and cultural opportunity to our constituents,” said County Executive Mangano. Long Beach City Manager Jack Schnirman has equal enthusiasm, "We had an incredible time at the inaugural Long Beach International Film Festival last year, and we absolutely cannot wait to get back on the beach this year to continue the tradition."
The evening will top off with an after party at The Allegria Hotel beginning at 10:30 p.m. The Allegria Hotel signed on to sponsor this event and is hosting the private VIP reception as well as offering discounted room rates for those looking to stay to the night, 516-889-1300 ask for special LBIFF rate.
The Festival will continue the following day at the The Long Beach Public Library for the screening of our Official Selections in the feature and documentary, and R rated short categories.
