6th Street Consulting (6SC) is pleased to announce the launch of a new SharePoint application for a large aerospace firm headquartered in Southern California. As one of the largest defense contractors in the world with over 100,000 employees and revenues exceeding $30 billion, the company provides innovative products, systems and solutions to government and commercial customers worldwide.
The firm’s supply chain division was in need of an application to help facilitate the process of filling out various procurement forms required to complete a Purchase Order (PO). Depending on the terms, employees may be required to not only identify and complete up to 200 forms to support a single PO, but also track the consistency of data across them. In doing so, procurement staff will have to interact with numerous heterogeneous systems and applications such as SAP, SharePoint, OpenText, and countless legacy custom applications. As a result, a tremendous amount of time is spent by procurement staff ensuring the accuracy of common data across all forms and systems.
The vision for the new application was to address the known issues and process complexity by providing an intuitive and centralized system to help guide procurement staff through the PO creation process. In doing so, the new application provides a “wizard” like process consisting of four simplified steps which streamlines the forms selection and completion process providing a one stop shop for data entry and form(s) tracking. The intuitive user interface allows the company to provide minimal end-user training to the procurement and subcontract staff.
Based on the quality and success of previous SharePoint applications built by 6SC, the company’s management team partnered with 6SC to help define and execute the vision. Since deploying two and a half months ago, the application’s intuitive user interface and step-by-step guided process has demonstrated a significant reduction in the amount of time end-users spend finding and filling out procurement forms. Additionally, because all the application data is stored in SharePoint lists and libraries, company “power users” are able to update forms and logic themselves without needing technical assistance from a programmer. Based on the success of the first release, the company is currently working with 6SC to expand the solution with goals to lower the costs of doing business by increasing collaboration with suppliers and consolidating systems and applications included in the overall process.
