Lucky Supermarket Supports Meals on Wheels & Senior Outreach Services
Walnut Creek, CA (PRWEB) August 04, 2013 -- Meals on Wheels and Senior Outreach Services (MOWSOS) recently joined the National Association of Nutrition & Aging Services Programs (NANASP) campaign to exempt current and future cuts to senior nutrition programs caused by federal sequestration. As part of the NANASP “Don’t Empty My Plate” campaign, over 400 Contra Costa County MOWSOS clients signed paper plates expressing their need for Meals on Wheels and C.C. Café programs recently affected by reduced funding due to federal cuts to senior nutrition programs.
Prior to sending these plates to congress, MOWSOS offered the general public a chance to view some of them and join their voices with local seniors to sign their own paper plate at an event on Thursday, August 1st at Lucky Supermarket in Pleasant Hill, CA. At the event, Meals on Wheels & Senior Outreach Services passed out 100 S.H.A.R.E.S. cards for patrons to use whenever grocery shopping at any Lucky, Food Maxx, or SaveMart supermarket. When swiped at checkout, 3% of each total charge will be automatically donated to Meals on Wheels - with no additional out of pocket expense.
"This is a terrific way for shoppers to donate without spending any additional money," says MOWSOS Executive Director, Elaine Clark. "The public is invited to contact our office for these cards, and we encourage people to request extras to share with family and friends."
Meals on Wheels & Senior Outreach Services has been supporting seniors throughout Contra Costa County since 1968. The non-profit organization provides an umbrella of six programs to help seniors live independently and with dignity. For more information or to make a donation, visit http://www.mowsos.org.
