Japanese contemporary artist, Yozo Abe will be back in Downtown Los Angeles Art Walk!

The exhibition “COLORS” by Japanese contemporary artist Yozo Abe, fresh from a successful showing in New York City, will appear at the Downtown Los Angeles Art Walk on August 8th, 2013.

Abe is a contemporary Japanese artist who creates beautiful, multi-layered canvases revealing an intense depth of expression and exploring themes of passion and freedom. In his career thus far, Abe has become well-established in the international art world, putting on outstanding exhibitions in Tokyo, Vancouver, Spain, Los Angeles, and New York. His “COLORS” exhibition features a collection of paintings centered on nostalgic and musical themes. This new batch of paintings will be on display at Spring Arts Tower as part of the Downtown Los Angeles Art Walk on August 8th, 2013.

Abe approaches the canvas with no assumptions or specific ideas as to the direction the composition will take. Abe says, “To me, painting is a conversation with myself.” His art conveys heartfelt emotion through impeccable craftsmanship, and Abe’s artistic inspiration is always spontaneous and intuitive. He illustrates figures that are both innocent and idiosyncratic. His lovable yet quirky personality sometimes generates confusion or puzzlement in the audience. And, perhaps playfully, Abe enjoys these moments of disconnect, a sensation that occurs often when experiencing his art.

As a Japanese contemporary artist, Yozo Abe strongly believes in the significance of expanding the reach of his art on a global scale. For instance, his 2011 summer exhibition at the James Gray Gallery in Santa Monica made an excellent first impression on the art community in California. This led to his successful debut at the Downtown Los Angeles Art Walk in August 2011. The event was significant for Abe because of the opportunity for him to immerse himself in LA’s culturally diversified art scene, community, and most importantly its people.

The New York art world also responded enthusiastically to the debut of the “COLORS” exhibition in February 2013. “COLORS” is comprised of a fresh, unconventional series of paintings, many of which were inspired by Abe’s experiences in Los Angeles. Abe says, “My paintings represent the conquest of liberty and a challenge to society.” At the upcoming exhibition “COLORS” at the Downtown Los Angeles Art Walk, you will both witness and participate in the unique artistry of Yozo Abe as he continues to challenge both himself and his audience.
