Monster Energy Athletes Sweep X Games Moto X Speed & Style Podium At X Games Los Angeles Tonight
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) August 03, 2013 -- X Games Moto X Speed & Style is aptly named because you don’t just need speed, but you need style. Monster Energy’s Nate Adams showed just how important the latter is in tonight’s event.
In the first round of competition, Adams faced off against X Games Foz du Iguacu gold medalist Lance Coury. Adams led the event early, but made an error in the whoops that allowed Coury by. Coury took the checkered flag first, but Adams – by virtue of his 360 spin and multiple flip tricks – scored high enough on the “style” portion of his score to defeat Coury and move to the semi-finals.
In the semi, Adams faced off against his Monster Energy teammate Andre Villa. Villa led the entire distance of the race, but Adams stayed close enough to Villa on time that his advantage in “style” landed him the win yet again, which sent Villa to the bronze-medal race against Matt Buyten, who lost his semi-final race to Monster Energy’s Blake “Bilko” Williams.
In the bronze-medal race, Villa wasted no time laying into Buyten.
“I saw that he was pretty dirty,” Villa laughed about Buyten, whose contact with former event champion Mike Mason sent Mason home in round one. “If you look close, you can see there’s blue on my green Kawasaki.”
When Villa hit Buyten, it knocked Buyten’s clutch lever loose, and Buyten – on a two-stroke Yamaha – couldn’t stay close to Villa, and Villa grabbed the bronze with ease to add to his collection, including the silver he earned in this same event in X Games Foz du Iguacu.
Then came the gold-medal round between Adams and Williams. As top qualifier, Adams got the inside gate, but Williams was quick out of the gate and put Adams behind him. As the laps wore on, Williams matched Adams’ 360 and looked to be heading toward the gold when he caught an edge going into the whoops and went over the bars on the last lap, handing the win to Adams.
“I didn’t really have much I could do against Bilko,” Adams said, “but he was all over the place. I was just trying to be smooth behind him and put pressure on him, and it worked. I’m pumped!”
Adams took home the gold in front of Williams and Villa, creating the second Monster Energy podium sweep in X Games Moto X so far at X Games Los Angeles.
