Pave the Way Foundation Requests Vatican Intervention to Reverse New Polish Law Against Kosher Slaughter
New York, NY (PRWEB) August 12, 2013 -- Pave the Way Foundation (PTWF), a non-sectarian organization whose mission is the removal of non-theological obstacles between the world religions and to promote gestures of goodwill, vehemently opposes new legislation imposed by the Polish government, which prohibits kosher slaughtering.
A July 23, 2013 Reuters article entitled "Vote deals lethal blow to Poland's kosher meat industry" exposes how devastating this new law is to the industry and those who depend on it for their livelihood. Link: http://in.reuters.com/article/2013/07/23/us-poland-kosher-idINBRE96M0OW20130723
Gary Krupp, PTWF President states, "This law directly attacks both Jewish and Muslim dietary laws. It also hurts the Polish economy since Poland has been a leading exporter of kosher meat to Jews and Muslims internationally." Elliot Hershberg, PTWF Board of Directors Chairman further comments, "This law benefits no one and is clearly an infringement on religious freedom."
PTWF has reached out to the Vatican to request their intervention in reversing this legislation. The Vatican succeeded once before in overturning a similar Polish law, in May 1938, when Cardinal Eugenio Pacelli, (who was later Pope Pius XII), stated, "… the Polish Government introduced a law that intends to forbid the slaughtering of animals as imposed on the Israelites by their religious laws. This would constitute a real persecution against the Jews." Pacelli further encouraged the reversal of the law, which was successfully defeated. This 1938 letter was included with the PTWF request. The letter can be viewed in the Pius XII document section of http://www.ptwf.org.
Gary Krupp also stated, "It is our fervent hope that the Polish government recognizes the negative impact of this law, and acts swiftly and accordingly to reverse it."
