The Staples Center opened in October 1999, and is the home court of both the Los Angeles Lakers and the Los Angeles Clippers of the National Basketball Association (NBA), the Los Angeles Sparks of the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA), and the National Hockey League's (NHL) Los Angeles Kings. It is also the site for WWE's SummerSlam. It seats up to 20,000 concertgoers.
As the prime sports venue in Los Angeles, it has statues of famous sports stars located outside of the building. Famous Los Angeles Lakers Magic Johnson, Jerry West and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar have been immortalized with statues, along with boxer Oscar dela Hoya, and ice hockey great Wayne Gretzky. Long-time Lakers sportscaster Chick Hearn also has his own statue beside those of the sports greats.
The Staples Center has seen more than its fair share of concerts since it opened in 1999.
