Cleanliness next to Healthiness – Health & hygiene, OPLs and contamination control
Cardiff (PRWEB UK) 5 August 2013 -- PHS Laundryserv is one of the UK’s leading providers of commercial laundry equipment with a wealth of experience in supplying to the healthcare industry.
Pete Waugh, PHS Laundryserv’s Operations Manager explains, “Infection control is the name of the game in the healthcare industry, with all manner of systems and procedures in place to try and limit cross contamination. It’s been proven time and again that bugs can be carried and transferred on textiles, making the laundry a key area in the ongoing fight to prevent cross contamination.”
“The Department of Health’s recent guidance document CfPP 01-04, should make all healthcare establishments really focus on their laundry contamination control and validation procedures. And one of the key points within this documentation is that the environment in which laundry processing is being carried out, should be designed to minimise the risk of recontamination of linen.”
“One of the best ways to minimise the risk of linen recontamination is to use a barrier washer. The premise is simple: the washers have two door openings, one at the front and one at the back, one for loading the dirty laundry and one for unloading the clean laundry. The washer then straddles a physical partition, such as a wall, making a physical separation for the soiled & clean laundry areas. However the use of such is equipment is low within the UK, making us lag behind much of Europe, as in many countries, barrier washers are a common sight within the healthcare laundry.”
“Laundryserv supply the Primus FXB and MB ranges of high spin barrier washers, which have a proven track record of use throughout Europe. Available in capacities of 18 or 24kg, the FXB washers are based on the design & technology used in Primus’ FX washers, ensuring they offer the ultimate in energy and water savings as well as helping in the fight against contamination. They also offer standard features such as a full stainless steel cabinet, a freely programmable XControl Plus processor, an automatic positioning drum and a large drain valve. For larger commercial laundry equipment requirements the Primus MB range of barrier washers offer capacities ranging from 26kg to 180kg.”
