USGIF Announces David Kilcullen as GEOINT 2013 Keynote Speaker
Herndon, VA (PRWEB) August 05, 2013 -- Dr. David Kilcullen pioneers new ways to understand and engage with environments in conflict. As the founder and CEO of Caerus Associates, his work focuses around a simple idea: responding to local communities’ needs can have mutually beneficial effects for governments, businesses and populations.
On Monday, Oct. 14, Dr. Kilcullen will share this vision and more with thousands of attendees as a keynote speaker at the GEOINT 2013 Symposium, held October 13-16 at the Tampa Convention Center in Tampa, FL. During his keynote, Dr. Kilcullen will discuss major themes from his upcoming book, Out of the Mountains: The Coming Age of the Urban Guerrilla.
Informed by his own fieldwork in the Caribbean, Somalia, the Middle East and Afghanistan, Dr. Kilcullen presents detailed, on-the-ground accounts of the new faces of modern conflict. Following his keynote address, Dr. Kilcullen will be available at the USGIF booth to sign copies of his book, which is scheduled for release in October. His book offers a groundbreaking look at what happens when warfare moves out of Afghanistan and into the urban setting 40 years from now. Scrutinizing major environmental trends such as population growth, coastal urbanization, and increasing digital connectivity, Dr. Kilcullen projects a future of regressive cities, urban systems under stress, and increasing overlaps between crime and war.
Before founding Caerus, Kilcullen served 24 years as a soldier, diplomat and policy advisor for the Australian and U.S. governments. He was Special Advisor to the Secretary of State from 2007-2009 and Senior Advisor to Gen. David Petraeus in Iraq in 2007. Civilian government officials, policymakers, military and development professionals use Dr. Killcullen’s bestselling books, The Accidental Guerrilla and Counterinsurgency, worldwide.
Kilcullen’s address will complement USGIF’s GEOINT 2013 Symposium theme “Operationalizing Intelligence for Global Missions.” This event will also be in the backyard of U.S. Special Operations Command (USSOCOM), U.S. Central Command (USCENTCOM), and numerous other allied and international coalition partners.
GEOINT 2013 attendees and exhibitors alike will benefit from a diverse offering of government, industry, academia, and thought leaders during the general sessions, training and education opportunities, and dynamic exhibit hall.
Other confirmed keynotes for GEOINT 2013 include the Honorable James R. Clapper Jr., Director of National Intelligence (DNI); Adm. William H. McRaven, U.S. Navy, Commander, U.S. Special Operations Command; and Letitia A. Long, Director of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA).
