For the third year running, Astro AVL (Audio Video Lighting) is hosting a DJ battle of epic proportions called “The Across the Fader DJ Battle”, an elimination style talent, skill and ability contest where DJs face off and compete for the grand prize in a winner take all slugfest of DJ scratches, cuts and call outs. With a legacy of almost 40 years as LA’s original DJ store, Astro AVL has the pull to bring the best to the tables.
The grand prize is $15,000+ in audio equipment supplied by the Event’s sponsors Mackie, Rane, and Pioneer; industry leaders in high-end DJ equipment. Also sponsoring the event are Stokyo, Serato, Freakonomics and Jarritos.
Hundreds of DJs from all parts of the Southwest have come to stake their claim to the “Astro AVL Across the Fader DJ Battle Crown”, of which only the top fifty were put through their paces in a series of five qualifying rounds. Of these fifty, an elite ten DJs have risen above the rest and will meet again in an epic showdown August 10th, slugging it out on high tech audio equipment, turntables and a stack of booming speakers. This is a battle between the best of the best but there will be only one winner; one “Astro AVL Across the Fader DJ Battle Champion”.
Hosted by DJ Prophet of KDAY fame, this not-to-miss event is open to the public. The contest is being held at a presently undisclosed location at Universal City Walk in conjunction with the Indie Entertainment Summit. The spectators to this event, although large in number, cross the spectrum of all walks of life, from families to other turntablists and DJs, and range in ages from 6 to 60; they clap, cheer and watch the action passionately on the big screens adjacent to the stage. The music pumps, the crowds sway, and the DJs put on a show that will never be matched in any top shelf Los Angeles club.
This once underground event was recently discovered by FOX 11 news, covered both last year’s semi-finals and finals and did a pair of several minute pieces on it explaining all aspects of the event on the evening news and will return to cover this event for this year’s final battle.
