Planning Ahead for the Holiday Season Can Prevent Profit and Productivity Dips, Find the Edge Expert Says
Manchester (PRWEB UK) 7 August 2013 -- Businesses can reclaim control of holiday periods - where they are hit by high levels of absent staff - through efficient planning, Emma Roberts has said in a brand new Find the Edge article.
She uses her post on the business website to explain the best ways to prevent any issues arising due to understaffing, explaining how continuity can be maintained during the summer months.
Roberts said: “The recent spell of good weather has served as a timely reminder that this is the period of the year when many people prepare for their summer holidays – sun, sea and surf.”
“However the holiday season can prove to be a ‘big’ headache for employers, who often have to operate at reduced staffing levels.”
“Summer can be a problematic time as most, if not all, employees (especially those with school children) wish to have time off during the summer months.”
She suggests it’s important to clearly define the company’s holiday policy, and to communicate this with all staff members. Roberts also recommends considering taking on agency staff to cover the absences, and help to prevent ‘holiday blues’ in returning staff members.
She said: “Any employer will need to consider how duties are covered during the holiday absence – is it viable for the role to be split between several people, resulting in a short term increase in workload?”
“Or is it more cost effective to bring in an Agency Worker for a longer period of time, to cover a number of employee absences?”
“It may sound obvious, but one of the biggest causes of holiday blues is the backlog of work employees comes back to.”

Kenny Goodman, founder of Find the Edge, said: “Anyone who’s owned a business knows how frustrating a summer staff exodus can be.”
“Holidays play a key role in refreshing staff members, however, and can be easily managed with a bit of forethought.”
