University of Colorado Boulder Libraries Select FileTek’s StorHouse ForeverNAS to Actively Archive Digital Media Assets
Rockville, MD (PRWEB) August 08, 2013 -- FileTek, Inc., a leading provider of large-scale data management, Big Data storage virtualization, and active archive solutions, today announced that the University of Colorado Boulder Libraries selected a StorHouse® ForeverNAS™ system to store, manage, and protect their digital media assets. While these assets must be retained for subsequent user access over time, they do not all require storage on expensive Tier 1/high-processing disk. System components consist of StorHouse ForeverNAS storage and data management software, Dell PowerVault disk, and a Spectra Logic T50e library with LTO drives.
By choosing StorHouse ForeverNAS, the University Libraries will gain a highly efficient and cost-effective digital repository that supports all standard NAS conveniences (simple online CIFS/NFS connectivity, a front-end file system interface, and standard networking capabilities) plus hundreds of StorHouse intelligent storage management features. These features include a highly scalable global name space that accommodates future storage growth with no adverse effects on system performance, inherent data integrity protection, and a hardware agnostic, blended multi-tier storage strategy. Other features support data migration from obsolete storage devices and media types to new ones transparently and automatically during normal system operation plus simplified system administration based on automated, policy-driven data migration, backup, active archive, retention, replication, and recovery.
Rice Majors, Assistant Professor and Director of Libraries Information Technology, commented, “We were looking for an affordable and easy-to-deploy storage management solution that enabled easy user access while ensuring the integrity of our digital media assets over time. We also required a system that could scale affordably to meet our projected storage growth. After looking at several solutions, it was clear that StorHouse ForeverNAS was our best choice. With StorHouse ForeverNAS, we can achieve essential business goals and still give our campus community top-notch service and support.”
“ForeverNAS delivers today’s most efficient and cost-effective long-term storage platform,” stated Gary Szukalski, President of FileTek. “While standard NAS solutions meet the requirements for primary, or Tier 1, storage, they do not provide the ForeverNAS features necessary to manage large volumes of critical data on a long-term basis. With ForeverNAS, the University of Colorado Boulder Libraries will benefit from StorHouse affordability, automated storage management, ease of system administration, and ensured data integrity throughout the information lifecycle.”
About StorHouse
StorHouse is a storage virtualization and data management platform that blends disk, tape, and the Cloud as part of a scaled-out NAS environment while providing an intelligent active archive strategy for Big Data. Because StorHouse abstracts hardware, users see a single unified global namespace rather than specific device types. The Cloud, SSD, JBOD, RAID, MAID, and tape, including LTO varieties, all look like one unlimited storage pool. And by writing data in native rather than proprietary file format, StorHouse eliminates formal restore procedures and gives users self-service access to all data at any time without IT intervention. No application interfaces or changes to existing applications are required. Other features include full CIFS and NFS connections and security, system automation for ease of use, automatic content validation/repair to eliminate silent corruption/bit rot problems, full LTFS support, and individual backup file deletes on any media, including tape.
