ONE World Sports Celebrates Japanese Baseball with Superstar Bobby Valentine
New York, NY and Stamford, CT (PRWEB) August 07, 2013 -- ONE World Sports, which offers world-class sporting events from around the globe, announced today that it will be hosting a special event in Stamford, CT at Bobby V’s Sports Bar. The network recently announced that famed baseball player and manager Bobby Valentine is starring in a new spotlight series that is airing through the second half of the Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) season.
ONE World Sports is offering fans the opportunity to watch the game on Optimum Channel 1159 with Bobby on August 21. Fans can sign up to attend an exclusive party at Bobby V’s Sports Bar, where they’ll watch the Chiba Lotte Marines square off against the Saitama Saiba Lions with the man himself. The first 75 fans who sign up at https://www.facebook.com/events/223204417827565/ will be eligible to attend the event.
The party runs from 7pm to 9pm; the game starts at 8pm.
“Baseball wouldn’t be the game it is without the enthusiasm and integrity of its fans, and I always feel especially honored when I get to watch a game with those who love it the most,” said Valentine, who now serves as the athletic director at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, CT.
A ten-year Major League Baseball (MLB) veteran, Valentine is known more recently for his managerial record, including six seasons with the New York Mets (1996-2002) and one with the Boston Red Sox (2012). In between, ‘Bobby V.’ also managed the Chiba Lotte Marines during their victorious 2005 season, where the team swept the Hanshin Tigers to win the NPB Japan Series. An already impressive feat, Valentine also retains the distinction of being the only foreign-born manager to have ever led an NPB team to the championship.
During his seven years in Japan, Valentine embraced the nation’s culture and came to greatly admire Japanese baseball, becoming a beloved local hero in the process. In ONE World Sports’ spotlight series, which begun airing with the network’s relaunch on August 3rd, Valentine takes on the role of storyteller, sharing his insights into Japanese baseball’s unique traditions, history, and ethos.
For example, we learn from Valentine that in Japan:
• Bullpens are placed out of sight in order to hide the incoming relief pitcher’s identity from the opposing team.
• Japanese professional players are noticeably better in certain areas than their MLB counterparts, especially bunting and catching.
• During the seventh-inning stretch at the Mazda Stadium (home of the Hiroshima Toyo Carps), over 32,000 fans inflate and release as many as 100,000 balloons in a dazzling spectacle.
Meanwhile, ONE World Sports has expanded its coverage of English-language Japanese baseball broadcasts.
In addition to 72 home games from the Tokyo-based Yomiuri Giants, ONE World Sports began telecasting in July, 15 additional games highlighting the top teams of the NPB Pacific League, including six featuring Valentine’s former club, the Chiba Lotte Marines.
“We are so excited to give fans this opportunity to interact one-on-one with a living baseball legend,” said Alexander “Sandy” Brown, president and CEO of ONE World Sports. “Fans across the country have been clamoring for increased Japanese baseball coverage, and ONE World Sports is more than happy to provide, in both our broadcasts and special events like this.”
"We are thrilled to provide fans this opportunity to interact one on one with a living baseball legend,” said Alexander “Sandy” Brown, president and CEO of ONE World Sports. "ONE World Sports is proud to be the home of Japanese baseball in this country, and we look forward to serving more fans with this tremendous programming."
The general public can join the party at Bobby V’s Restaurant by signing up at ONE World Sports’ Facebook page; the first 75 to sign up will get a chance to go to the party.
