The Canada-India Business Council Hosts Energy Roundtable
Toronto (PRWEB) August 07, 2013 -- Reliable energy is indispensable for both economic growth and quality of life.
India is the world’s fourth largest energy consuming nation – and yet, more than half their population has unreliable or no access to an energy source.
Recognizing the barrier this presents to the nation’s economic growth and development, Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh recently committed to doubling the country’s renewable energy capacity – with a focus on non-conventional energy sources such as solar, nuclear, wind power and energy from biomass.
The extent of India’s energy needs represent a significant opportunity for Canada and will be the focus of the Canada-India Business Council’s Energy Roundtable on August 8, 2013.
Dr. Saumitra Chaudhuri, member of the Indian Planning Commission, with special responsibility for energy, will lead the discussion.
Joining him are senior representatives from India’s Ministry of Power, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, and the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (please see below for a full list of the attending delegation).
“The Canada-India Business Council is pleased to host a dialogue that allows government and industry representatives from both Canada and India to learn about each other strengths, capabilities and requirements. Such discussions lay the foundation for future collaboration in sectors like energy where the potential is enormous.” Says Peter Sutherland, President & CEO, the Canada- India Business Council.
