Momentum Is Building For “John Offerdahl’s Broward Health® Gridiron Grill-Off Food, Wine & Tailgate Festival” On Saturday, November 9
Pompano Beach, Florida (PRWEB) August 08, 2013 -- Grillers and football lovers alike are getting fired up for “John Offerdahl’s Broward Health® Gridiron Grill-Off Food, Wine & Tailgate Festival” set for Sat., Nov. 9 from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Pompano Beach Amphitheater, 1806 N.E. 6th Street, Pompano Beach. As part of this 4th annual culinary showdown benefitting recognized charities, Miami Dolphins legends will be paired with South Florida’s top chefs to prepare signature dishes, while others enjoy the Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Honey Tailgate Zone, live music or South Florida’s first-ever EGGfest, featuring Big Green Egg barbecue enthusiasts.
“We are so excited to build upon our three years of success and this year is a turning point as we kick it up a notch with more great people, food and entertainment; all for a good cause,” said John Offerdahl, event founder and former Miami Dolphins All-Pro Linebacker. “It’s the only event of its kind, where football, food and charity collide to feed the needs of kids in crisis and we look forward to seeing so many of our friends and fans there.”
As many as 2,500 football fans and foodies are in for a real treat as more than 20 Miami Dolphins legends team up with top local chefs to create winning dishes. Grill-Off attendees will have the chance to meet the esteemed players and noted chefs, sample their culinary masterpieces, vote for their favorite recipe and look on as judges select the winning team. 100% of event net proceeds with ticket sales at $75 per person, will benefit Offerdahl’s Hand-Off Foundation, which directs funds to agencies that “feed the needs of kids in crisis,” including 4KIDS of South Florida, HOPE South Florida, Here’s Help, Florida Restaurant & Lodging Association and the Miami Dolphins Foundation.
It is a food lover’s event with past menu items such as BBQ Swordfish, Sea scallops wrapped with Prosciutto and New York Strip steak, Super Duper’s Skirt Steak, Pork Belly Lettuce Wraps, Grilled Lobster Roll and Mahi Mahi Tacos to be paired with a selection of Kendall-Jackson wines. Last year’s Critic’s Choice Award went to former Dolphins running back Troy Stradford with Chef Greg McGowan of Pelican Landing at Pier 66. The People’s Choice Award was awarded to Dolphins former safety Louis Oliver and Chef David Hackett of Hollywood Prime. This year’s participating teams of Dolphins players and chefs will be announced during early September.
Football fans will also enjoy The Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Honey Tailgate Zone, which will engage football fans with a spirited cornhole and bean bag competition, including the chance to play alongside Miami Dolphins legends. Guests of this free admission part of the event will also enjoy activities for the entire family, including the Grilling Expo & Exhibit area, offering the best tips for grilling. Plus, event goers can view current University of Florida, Florida State University and University of Miami football games and visit Radio Row to check out live broadcasts from WQAM-AM and WINZ-AM.
Adding to the excitement, South Florida’s first-ever EGGfest will feature Big Green Egg enthusiasts from across the country, looking to show off their skills on the iconic outdoor grill. A $25 admission fee gives EGGfest attendees the chance to enjoy food samples, plus all of the other great fun and entertainment as part of the Tailgate Zone.
Offerdahl added, “If you love football, love great food and love your community, then this is the event you should attend – I’ll see you there!”
Tickets for the Grand Grill-Off are $75 each. EGGfest tickets cost $25 each and the Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Honey Tailgate Zone is free and open to the public. Tickets go on sale August 15 and can be purchased at http://www.gridirongrilloff.com.
