CED Releases First Innovators Report
Durham, N.C. (PRWEB) August 08, 2013 -- The Council for Entrepreneurial Development (CED), the Southeast’s largest entrepreneurial support organization, today released its first semi-annual CED Innovators Report: Trends in Entrepreneurship. The infographic reflects data gathered from between January 1– June 30, 2013 regarding technology and life science companies from across the state of North Carolina. Data of note includes identification of a record for N.C.: five IPOs in the first six months of the year.
“CED is excited to unveil exciting data on entrepreneurship in North Carolina,” said Dhruv Patel, CED’s program director. “It is part of our mission to promote high-growth, high-impact companies, and the Innovators Report is a tool to promote N.C. business successes, uncovering critical activities not being heralded elsewhere. The trends after analysis are striking – and encouraging.”
Of particular note are the five IPOs in North Carolina that occurred in this period. This is a high level of activity for North Carolina; in all of 2012, for example, there was only one IPO from a N.C. company. Nearly one in three of all IPOs for companies in the Southeast came from N.C. Additionally, two IPO filings occurred during the first half of 2013, boding well for the next report’s figures.
This is the first of CED’s semi-annual publications tracking the state of entrepreneurship in North Carolina. Although there are a variety of indicators to consider, these reports focus on:
• Funding: including angel investment, venture capital investment, grants;
• Partnerships: major sales or partnership agreements between companies;
• Exits: IPOs, mergers and acquisitions.
“We report on the entire state in order to compare North Carolina’s activity to the rest of the nation,” continued Patel. ”Future reports will include a comparison of changes in activity over time to get a sense of where we, as a state, are headed.”
CED monitors activity and collects data from a variety of resources, including CED partners, government data, news releases, and communications from entrepreneurs. The organization encourages companies to provide additional news and feedback by emailing Vance Faulkner at vfaulkner(at)cednc(dot)org.
