Greenberg Traurig Expands Litigation Practice with the Addition of Pamela G. Smith in Chicago

August 8, 2013 – Pamela G. Smith joined the Chicago office of the international law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP as a shareholder in the Litigation practice.
Smith is an experienced trial lawyer with more than 20 years of experience advising publicly traded companies, directors, and officers and defending them against alleged violations of the securities laws and alleged breaches of fiduciary duties asserted by shareholders, whistleblowers, auditors, and government regulators, including the Securities & Exchange Commission and the Department of Justice.

In private actions, Smith has defended clients in federal securities class actions alleging violations of Sections 11, 12(a)(1), 12(a)(2) and 15 of the Securities Act and Sections 10(b), 14(a), 18(a) and 20(a) of the Securities Exchange, as well as in shareholder direct class actions, shareholder derivative actions, and Mergers and Acquisitions litigation. She has also conducted internal investigations and advised boards of directors and special committees of boards regarding their fiduciary duties and best practices. Before government regulators, Smith has led the defense of clients being investigated for securities, commodities, and criminal violations by the SEC, DOJ and the Commodities Futures Trading Commission. Recently, Smith secured a “no action” determination from the SEC, after it had provided her with Wells notice of its intent to file fraud charges against her client.

Smith’s practice encompasses a wide range of industries including aerospace, financial institutions, health care, manufacturing, software, telecommunications and retail.

“We are delighted to be adding someone of Pam’s caliber to our already strong securities litigation team both in Chicago and throughout the firm,” said Paul T. Fox, co-managing shareholder of the Chicago office. “Her skills and experience are a perfect fit for our firm.”

Smith earned her B.S. from Northwestern University, and her J.D. from Loyola University Chicago School of Law.
