The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Medical Services Bureau was selected by AMD Global Telemedicine for this award based on their ability to successfully implement and sustain a telemedicine program that has improved the quality of care for their patients. As the world’s largest jail system, they are responsible for the healthcare needs of over 18,000 patients. Their use of telemedicine technology to provide quality healthcare services has significantly reduced the security risks and costs associated with transporting patients. The AMD Global Telemedicine President’s Award for Telemedicine Excellence will be presented to the LA County Sheriff’s Department Medical Services Bureau on August 22, 2013 during the “Telemedicine Peer-to-Peer Education” event organized by Nexus Connected Healthcare, AMD Global Telemedicine and Cisco Systems, Inc. This event will take place at the Bahia Corinthian Yacht Club in Corona del Mar, CA. Representing and receiving the award on behalf of the LA Country Sheriff’s Department will be Amy Huynh, RN who will be doing a 30 minute presentation to share their experience with setting up and maintaining such a successful telemedicine program.
