Inaugural Barn Bash a Celebration of Life for 16 Year Brain Cancer Survivor in West Linn Oregon
West Linn, OR (PRWEB) August 12, 2013 -- The inaugural Barn Bash for Brain Cancer Research will take place at Long Road Farm in West Linn Oregon. Tickets cost $50 and the 21 and over event will feature endless buffet by Joe’s Burgers, music, dancing, and a no host bar. The event will celebrate the life of brain cancer warrior Megan Patton, a brain cancer patient of 16 years. The Barn Bash for Brain Cancer Research will be held August 17th, doors open at 6pm.
Megan and her family are stepping back from the rigorous days of treatment and taking a night to celebrate Megan’s fight to raise awareness and funds for her cause. “After 4 surgeries, radiation, and chemo therapy 5 days each month, we have decided to celebrate her fight, raise awareness for the ongoing battle she and so many others face, and raise money for research that could one day save her life. Last but not least we wanted to have a night of fun and celebration with family and friends,” says the Barn Bash co-coordinator and Megan’s sister Heidi Hammersley.
A portion of the funds raised at the event will benefit the Chris Elliott Fund (CEF) a group that has assisted Megan during her journey with her brain cancer. Her relationship with the Chris Elliott Fund began back in 2003, when she began looking online for a support network and other individuals going through her same journey.
“CEF has been an invaluable resource and support as I have battled my brain tumor over the past 10 years. CEF has connected me with the Dana Farber Institute and Dr. Wen who have been a constant resource in expert treatment and care throughout my battle. I continue to turn to CEF’s direct one-on-one patient support services and website as a resource and a source of hope and support as a brain tumor warrior,” said Megan about her treatment experience and with the patient advocacy organization.
Megan’s family and friends have put together many activities for those who attend the event and encourage everyone to bring their best western attire. Megan says “I am most looking forward getting all of the people I know together who have supported my family and I through all of the surgeries, weeks of radiation, and continued chemo. It’s time to celebrate!”
“A 16-year survival should be celebrated, and we are proud to be the beneficiary of a portion of the proceeds. It is events like this that support CEF’s mission of hope, awareness, advocacy and research,” says CEF President and founder Dellann Elliott Mydlyand. Tickets can be purchased via the Barn Bash for Brain Cancer Research’s website. Donations can be made in honor of Megan’s event by visiting the event's donation page.
