It would take us longer to get the draperies off the windows and loaded into a laundry cart, than it took to steam them clean. The steam cleaning method saves immense time and will save hundreds of thousands of dollars.

A large hotel in New York City needed to clean draperies in each of the existing 1600 rooms and conference areas. The hotel is adding over 1500 rooms in the next couple of years, and of course all the new rooms will need draperies. This initial expenditure is a huge cost, but the cost of cleaning draperies and what is involved is expensive. Their current method of cleaning draperies is to fully remove them from the windows, take all of them to the wash, and then be re-installed. This process is very time intensive and very expensive just to launder them. But the other hidden expense is the need for "back up" draperies put back on the windows while the existing draperies are in the wash. For this hotel to eventually have almost 3000 rooms the cost of having "back up" draperies was enormous.
Steam cleaning was the solution
The hotel was introduced to steam cleaning and the method of cleaning the draperies while in place and still in the room over the windows. The steam cleaner needed to be powerful with hot, dry steam vapor and be able to keep up with the cleaning staff’s pace. The commercial Vapor Chief was put in place and was easily able to handle the cleaning chores. The draperies were cleaned top to bottom and on both sides. The average cleaning time was about 5 minutes. The smell of the room instantly improved. The draperies were completely dry after 5 minutes. The draperies never had to be taken off the windows and transported to the laundry room. It was the perfect solution. As a high ranking hotel employee stated; “It would take us longer to get the draperies off the windows and loaded into a laundry cart, than it took to steam them clean. The steam cleaning method saves immense time and will save hundreds of thousands of dollars.”
Other hotel steam cleaning uses
The housekeeping staff has found other uses for the vapor Chief steam cleaner. Bedspreads are now cleaned with steam and the frequency of laundering a bedspread is reduced. Mattresses and duvets are cleaned with steam to prevent bedbugs. Bathrooms are cleaned with steam and disinfected. The need for chemicals has been reduced by 80%. In the lobby, chairs and sofas are now cleaned with steam. The Vapor Chief has an optional steam mop attachment which the hotel uses to clean the tile and marble floors. The vapor chief is used in the kitchen to clean ovens, disinfect and clean counter tops, refrigerators and exhaust hoods.
Cleaner, more effective and faster
The hotel staff can clean everything far faster with the vapor chief. All the cleaning tasks are done with more precision and speed. Steam cleaning is more effective than mopping, cleaning with harsh chemicals, and steam cleaning disinfects and kills germs and bacteria. Rooms are fresher smelling and surfaces look cleaners and feel cleaner. To go along with better cleaning is huge money savings. The hotel will save hundreds of thousands of dollars on the cost of having back up draperies, extra labor and related costs to launder the draperies. They realize the cost savings in the cleaning of other areas of the hotel as well.
