CEO of American Speech-Language-Hearing Association to Become Board Chair of Leading Association Group
Rockville, MD (PRWEB) August 13, 2013 -- Arlene A. Pietranton, PhD, CAE, will become chair of the board of the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) September 1.
ASAE represents more than 21,000 association executives and industry partners representing 10,000 organizations. Its members manage leading trade associations, individual membership societies, and voluntary organizations nationwide and in nearly 50 countries.
ASAE board chairs serve a 1-year term of office. Pietranton will take on the role while she continues as CEO of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), headquartered in Rockville, MD. Pietranton has served as ASHA’s top executive since 2004.
With a staff of 260 and a $50 million operating budget, ASHA is recognized consistently as a best place to work and association leader in diversity, social responsibility, and environmental practices. In 2007, ASHA’s then newly built National Office was recognized as a Gold LEED certified building. ASHA was the first association in the state to receive such recognition.
Meanwhile, the ASHA membership has continued to grow and be retained at high levels. Currently, ASHA represents more than 166,000 audiologists; speech-language pathologists; speech, language, and hearing scientists; and student, international, and support personnel affiliates/associates.

Pietranton says she is both honored and excited to have the opportunity at a time when associations are playing such a key role creating knowledge, connecting people across sectors, and fostering innovative solutions in virtually all industries and areas of societal interest.
“The ASAE board is rich in executive experience, and I am confident we will accomplish much working together and with our ASAE member and staff colleagues,” she says. Pietranton also sees a plus in the cooperative nature of the association world, noting that “collaboration and sharing of resources and information is a hallmark of the association industry.”
