Lucian Leape Institute at the National Patient Safety Foundation Announces Agenda for 6th Annual Forum & Gala
Boston, MA (PRWEB) August 13, 2013 -- The Lucian Leape Institute (LLI) at the National Patient Safety Foundation has announced the program for its 6th Annual Forum & Gala to be held in Boston on Thursday, September 12, 2013.
The afternoon forum will feature an interactive program with LLI members that will touch upon themes of the Institute’s recent work:
•Engaging Patients and Families in Improving Safety
Discussion led by Susan Edgman-Levitan, PA, executive director, John D. Stoeckle Center for Primary Care Innovation, Massachusetts General Hospital
•The Transforming Concept of Transparency: What Are Our Priority Areas of Focus?
Discussion led by Gary S. Kaplan, MD, FACMPE, chairman and CEO, Virginia Mason Medical Center
•Leveraging Efforts to Contain Costs to Advance the Safety Movement
Discussion led by Janet M. Corrigan, PhD, MBA, former president and CEO, National Quality Forum
•Joy and Meaning in Work: Building the Bridge from Recommendations to Action
Discussion led by Julianne M. Morath, RN, MS, president and CEO, California Hospital Quality Institute; and Paul O’Neill, former chairman and CEO, Alcoa, and 72nd Secretary of the US Treasury
During the evening gala, keynote speaker Carolyn Clancy, MD, director of the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, from 2003 through August 2013, will speak on the topic of “Patients’ Safety: From Knowledge to Impact.”
“Dr. Clancy is a founding member of the Leape Institute and has led AHRQ through a period of significant changes in health care,” said Tejal K. Gandhi, MD, MPH, CPPS, president of LLI and of the National Patient Safety Foundation. “We are honored to have her share her unique perspectives on the progress that has been made in patient safety and the practical application of safety science in health care.”
The Lucian Leape Institute, a think tank based at the National Patient Safety Foundation in Boston, is named for and chaired by Dr. Lucian Leape, adjunct professor of health policy, Harvard School of Public Health, and a renowned leader of the patient safety movement.
This event caps a productive year for the Institute. With the recent publication of two white papers, the LLI members have initiated discussion and calls-to-action regarding the physical and psychological safety of the health care workforce and the need for greater integration of care delivery across the health continuum. The annual Forum & Gala is an opportunity for Institute members to share their work while also listening to the perspectives of those in attendance, who represent health care organization and industry partners.
This year’s program is being held at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library & Museum in Boston. The afternoon forum will run from 1 pm to 5 pm. Attendees may take a self-guided tour of the museum from 5 pm until the start of the evening program at 6 pm.
Individual tickets to the Lucian Leape Institute Forum & Gala are available at a cost of $275 each. Leaders of health care organizations who wish to reward key members of their teams may purchase a table (10 seats) at the cost of $2,750.
