Intelligent Manufacturing Systems (IMS) Announces That Dr. Elisabeth Reynolds Is A Confirmed Speaker For World Manufacturing Forum 2013
Arlington, VA (PRWEB) August 13, 2013 -- Intelligent Manufacturing Systems (IMS) is pleased to announce that Dr. Elisabeth Reynolds, Executive Director, MIT Industrial Performance Center, will be participating as a speaker at the World Manufacturing Forum 2013.
The Forum will be held October 22-23 at the Ronald Reagan Building & International Trade Center in Washington, D.C. Dr. Reynolds will be participating in a session regarding innovation in production and opportunities in next-generation manufacturing, which will take place on Tuesday, October 22, 2013.
Dr. Reynolds has been a researcher and consultant for over a decade in the field of urban and regional economic development and industrial competitiveness. Her work focuses on the geography of innovation, urban and regional economic growth and industrial policy. She has worked in particular on the theory and practice of industrial cluster development and advises several regional organizations in this area. Her recent work with the Brookings Institution on the federal role in regional industry clusters led to a reorientation by several federal departments and agencies toward regional strategies that support industry clusters.
Dr. Reynolds has an A.B. from Harvard in government and was the Harvard Fiske Scholar at Trinity College, Cambridge. She holds an MSc from the University of Montreal in economics and a Ph.D. from MIT in urban and regional studies.
Her Ph.D. dissertation examined the globalization of the biomanufacturing industry with a focus on how the U.S. and Massachusetts are competing in this highly complex, dynamic industry. She subsequently advised the state of Massachusetts on its biomanufacturing strategy and helped create the Massachusetts Biomanufacturing Roundtable, an industry/academic roundtable that addresses issues of innovation and public policy in the region.
This year, with the theme of “The Way Forward to Global Prosperity through Intelligent Manufacturing Collaboration,” the Forum will focus on cooperation needed to create a global environment for sustainable economic success through sharing resources, creating and supporting common platforms for standards and interoperability for emerging technologies, solving storage and knowledge-mining challenges for ever-increasing amounts of data, and finding innovative ways to leverage applied R&D investments. The event will also discuss the key innovation differentiators of technology and skills, and the role of educational institutions and companies in training the next-generation of workers in the highly technical field of manufacturing.
The Forum will bring together high-level industrialists, policy makers, and key societal stakeholders across the globe for a cross-exchange of ideas on major macroeconomic trends and manufacturing innovation. The Forum is sponsored by the international Intelligent Manufacturing Systems program and its member countries and is open to international sponsorship from government, industry, and institutions.
