Gen. Larry Ellis Speaks at 100,000 Jobs Mission in New York City
Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) August 15, 2013 -- Larry Ellis, CEO of VetConnexx, a retired 4-star General and a service-disabled veteran, spoke at a quarterly meeting of the 100,000 jobs mission in New York City on Thursday, July 18.
A number of leading U.S. companies launched the 100,000 Jobs Mission in March 2011 with a goal of hiring 100,000 transitioning service members and military veterans by 2020.
Lorraine Lopez of AT&T Serves, a Veterans with Disabilities Supplier Diversity Program within AT&T, introduced General Ellis.
General Ellis served more than 35 years active duty including overseas tours in Europe, the Pacific and the Balkans before retiring as the Commander of US Army Forces Command.
“VetConnexx is unique because we honor and appreciate the background of all veterans. In the military, these soldiers learned structure, how to follow orders and complete their mission, as well as reinforcement of personal characteristics such as integrity and teamwork. All this positions then well to provide customer care and technical support for some of the world’s biggest companies,” Ellis said.
Ellis also talked about the importance of their partnership with AT&T and the Bobby Dodd institute. He said, “There are at least 10 or 15 things you have to do right every day to have a successful veterans program. Our partners are big parts of making that happen.”
Hiring veterans is not only the right thing to do for veterans, but it's a great thing to do for our businesses. Our nation's military and veterans represent the best this country has to offer and they bring meaningful skills to the workplace.
With over 100 companies participating in the 100,000 Jobs Mission, they have collectively hired over 75,000 veterans to date.
