Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sioux Falls and Adams Thermal Break Ground
Sioux Falls, SD (PRWEB) August 16, 2013 -- Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sioux Falls and Adams Thermal Systems celebrated a groundbreaking ceremony for a new home in Canton, SD. The ceremony was held at 513 S. Main Street on Monday, August 12 at noon.
The ceremony included representatives from Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sioux Falls and Adams Thermal Systems, which is sponsoring the home. The future home owners and their four children also attended the ceremony.
“The groundbreaking ceremony is the first big event for homeowners to let them physically see that the building of their home is underway,” said Niki Schillerstrom, Community Relations Director for Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sioux Falls. “In addition, the community support enhances the process and affirms our mission of equipping everyone to be able to earn safe, affordable, decent housing,” adds Schillerstrom.
According to Brian Denny, Human Resources Manager and Habitat for Humanity liaison at Adams Thermal Systems, “Habitat homes are by far the most popular volunteer opportunities that our employees engage in. Providing a home for a local family is particularly significant in a smaller community like Canton,” explains Denny. “These new homeowners are also neighbors that we see and interact with every day,” he added.
The new home in Canton will be the fourth sponsored by Adams Thermal Systems and the 120th house built by Habitat Sioux Falls. A total of 170 adults and 424 children have been welcomed into new homes since 1991 through the work of Habitat for Humanity, local companies, churches and volunteers.
Homeowners are selected by Habitat based on their need for housing, ability to pay a 0% interest mortgage, and willingness to partner with Habitat. Mortgage payments contribute to a Fund for Humanity, which in turn provides money to build more homes.
