American Quilter’s Society Awards Over $50,000 in Grand Rapids, MI
Grand Rapids, Michigan (PRWEB) August 14, 2013 -- AQS QuiltWeek ® – Grand Rapids, Michigan 2013, opening on August 14, 2013, features over 780 quilts from around the world. Ten special exhibits include four international collections, two from The National Quilt Museum, and several that have never been seen outside of Paducah, Kentucky.
The high point of the show recognizes the artistry of today’s quiltmakers as artists compete in the AQS Quilt Contest for more than $44,000 in cash awards, plus another $6,000 in the AccuQuilt GO! Have Fun Challenge. Entries in this international contest and exhibition come from around the world–with artists from 42 states and six other countries. The winners of this year’s contest have just been selected.
This year’s winners come from across the world and feature several large prize winners from Michigan. Quilts from 23 states have won awards at this year’s contest along with winners from Taiwan and Brazil. These winning quilts will astound the 21,000 quilters expected to visit AQS QuiltWeek in Grand Rapids, Michigan, August 14 – 17, 2013.

Best of Show Award: SUSHI III by Mary Kay Price of Lake Oswego, OR
Best Hand Workmanship Award: TREE OF LIFE by Tim Latimer of Lansing, MI
Best Machine Workmanship Award: CAPTURING BRITTANY by Lenore Crawford of Midland, MI
Best Longarm Workmanship Award: ANDREW by Kathi Carter of Vineyard, UT
Best Wall Quilt Award: ESCÚCHAME by Beth Markel of Rochester Hills, MI
There’s still time to come see all the winners, as well as the more than 750 quilts on display at the DeVos Place Convention Center. Admission to AQS QuiltWeek includes access to all special exhibitions and the merchant mall with more than 380 vendors. Hours are Wednesday, August 14, through Friday, August 16, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday, August 17, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
