Casey Gollan’s Tip Sheet on Sharing a Presentation Using Slideshare
(PRWEB) August 20, 2013 -- “If you haven’t already tried Slideshare, I’d encourage you to give it a try. It really is easy to use, and helps you extend the reach of your presentations far beyond what you could achieve on your own,” says leading Australian company mentor Gollan.
Titled How to Share a Presentation Using Slideshare, the bulletin outlines how businesses can use the site to expand and grow their reach. Slidecasts, Gollan says, can provide a business with a more personal feel when they are loaded onto the website for visitors to see. And in terms of SEO, the following is certainly worth bearing in mind, he says:
“Slideshare enjoys high rankings in the search engines, and all slideshows uploaded to the site are crawled and indexed. This means that depending on the ranking of your own website, your Slideshare presentations may beat out your own website for certain keywords.
“Optimize your Slideshare presentations as you would any other piece of content; Choose keyword-rich titles and descriptions, and include as many relevant tags as you can think of. Keep in mind that your titles and descriptions correspond with your meta title and description, so choose them wisely.”
Zipcast allows businesses to host online meetings where it’s possible to add slides, video, audio and even chat online,” said business guru Gollan. There is also the option of hosting private, invitation-only meetings when businesses become paid up members.
Now owned by LinkedIn, Slideshare can be incorporated into a business’s profile on the social media site to show presentations, boost credibility and a more ‘human face’ to business.
Slideshare also offers the chance to provide webinars at no charge. This is achieved via uploading slides, editing a file and clicking ‘Create Slidecast.’The audio file can then be uploaded and the webinar posted on the company website and shared on social media.
Leadshare is all about collecting business leads ie names and emails via a form embedded into the company’s Slideshare presentation, video, or document when viewers provide feedback. The form can be customized and added to all presentations.
How to Share a Presentation Using Slideshare
1. Create a slideshow.
This is similar to creating a slideshow in Powerpoint, Keynote or OpenOffice however it’s worth remembering that animations cannot be transferred to Slideshare.
2. Sign up for a slideshare account.
The signup link is at the top right hand side of the screen on the Slideshare home page.
3. Upload and tag the presentation.
Select ‘Upload’, and then the file to publish. Begin tagging the presentation – the fields act as meta tags for the presentation, and are important for both the internal Slideshare search function, as well as search engine indexing. Use keywords in the title, description, and tags, and include an url to the company site near the beginning of the description field.
4. Add audio to the presentation.
To add audio to the slideshow, record a transcript using recording software like Audacity or Garageband (Mac). Fortunately, Slideshare provides an automatically generated transcript of the uploaded slideshow to use as a starting point,” says business expert Gollan.
To find the transcript, view the slideshow by clicking ‘My Uploads’, found on the account dropdown box at the top right of the screen.
To upload an audio file and link it to the slideshow, return to the uploads page, and click on ‘Add audio’ next to the presentation. Simply upload the audio (mp3) file and Slideshare will automatically link and sync with the slideshow.
5. Embed slideshow onto your website or blog.
One of the best ways to share a presentation is to put it up on the company website using the embed code Slideshare provides.
To the right of the presentation, a box labelled ‘Embed’ provides code to be copied to the clipboard. Create a new post, and paste the embed code into the HTML of the page. Click ‘Publish’, and the Slideshare presentation will go live on the company website.
