Lakeview Health Systems Partners with Nationally Recognized University of Florida Department of Psychiatry
Jacksonville, FL (PRWEB) August 15, 2013 -- Depression, anxiety and bipolar disorder often go undiagnosed in patients struggling with substance abuse. Having the right medical expertise to evaluate and treat the mental health issues that often accompany long-term alcohol and drug addiction is crucial. That’s why Lakeview Health Systems has partnered with the University of Florida College of Medicine Department of Psychiatry to provide cutting-edge medical support for Lakeview patients struggling with both substance use and co-occurring disorders.
Distinguished faculty from the University of Florida Department of Psychiatry who will be providing services to Lakeview patients include: William Jacobs, M.D., Tonia Werner, M.D. and Kevin Holbert, M.D. Their combined experience working with complex addiction and psychiatric conditions has helped patients balance their need for psychiatric medication while maintaining an abstinence-based program of sobriety.
“This relationship with UF and Lakeview will allow us to progress from previous standards of care where patients with co-existing psychiatric and substance use disorders had their medications abruptly discontinued upon entering treatment,” said Jacobs, chief of staff. “Now with the help of Dr. Werner and Dr. Holbert, we are able to treat both these conditions simultaneously with better results for the patient, as well as improved treatment efficiency.”
This partnership with UF is one of many important advances to the Lakeview Health Systems’ vision and mission. In early 2013, Lakeview transitioned leadership with a commitment to providing the highest quality of care for patients and families with both substance use and mental health disorders.
“We are excited to partner with the University of Florida Department of Psychiatry,” said Roy Serpa, Lakeview’s president and CEO. “Their involvement has generated a multidisciplinary treatment approach, including our advanced nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses and therapists. We anticipate their involvement will enhance successful recovery outcomes for Lakeview patients and families.”
