HUNTERcourse.com has launched its second annual campaign to encourage new hunters to get their education certification in time for hunting season. Called “Hunter Education Season” the campaign is part of a larger industry push targeting barriers to education, such as the seasonal shortfall in hunter education spots.

“Every year hundreds of young Americans miss out on first hunts because they wait until September or October to get certified and then find there is no room left in hunter education classes and field days,” says Kerry Moher, of Fresh Air Educators, makers of HUNTERcourse.com. “The goal of Hunter Education Season is to shift some of that demand to August, when there are still spots available.”

Hunter Education Season adds to a number of industry initiatives designed to reduce barriers to recruiting new hunters. These include the National Shooting Sports Foundation’s “Families Afield” program, which encourages mentored youth hunts, and a growing move to online-only courses, which have no limit to registration.

“For every 100 hunters who leave the sport, only 69 are taking their place,” says Paige Pearson of The Council to Advance Hunting and the Shooting Sports. “So, it’s important that we help young people get out in the field when they are interested. Those who miss out on first hunts may not return the next year, which has larger implications for the sport of hunting, wildlife conservation and local economies.”

Running from August 15th to August 31st, 2013, the Hunter Education Season campaign combines awareness about signing up for hunter education early with a limited-time 33-percent discount on the HUNTERcourse.com online course. “We hope that by adding a limited-time discount, it encourages people to take action now,” concludes Moher.

Hunter Education Season is now open and interested students can sign up at http://www.huntercourse.com/usa/.
