Development, Finance Professionals to Discuss Strategies to Provide Affordable Rental Housing
San Francisco (PRWEB) August 15, 2013 -- Hundreds of developers, investors, lenders, syndicators, policymakers and other key contributors to the ongoing success of the low-income housing tax credit (LIHTC) program will gather at the 20th Annual Novogradac Affordable Housing Conference, Oct. 3-4 in San Francisco. The two-day event continues the Novogradac tradition of helping practitioners examine critical issues and identify strategies for overcoming challenges to provide much needed affordable rental housing. Panelists will discuss federal and state concerns, such as the outlook for the LIHTC program in the face of possible tax reform and finding new funding sources in a post-redevelopment-agency era.
“As tax reform efforts, federal budget concerns and diminishing state and local resources alter the shape of affordable housing finance, it’s imperative to band together and collectively identify new strategies to develop and preserve affordable rental housing,” said Jim Kroger, CPA, conference chair and partner in Novogradac & Company LLP’s San Francisco office. “In light of the sustained demand for affordable rental housing in the United States, and especially in California, as well as important budget and tax issues being considered by Congress, this is an important time for the affordable housing community to gather.”
Influential industry insiders will join affordable housing expert Michael J. Novogradac, CPA, to discuss important tax reform proposals and their possible effects on the low-income housing tax credit program. Experts will also share strategies to avoid loss or reallocation of tax credits in two panels: “Year 15 Dispositions and Capital Accounts” and “IRC §704(b) Issues for LIHTC Property Owners.” Additional timely topics include best practices for forming for-profit/nonprofit partnerships, the state of the current debt and equity markets and case study presentations on transactions that successfully combined new markets tax credit and LIHTCs.
With participants from more than 35 states expected to attended, planned networking events will give attendees the opportunity to discuss relevant issues and innovative solutions with LIHTC professionals from across the nation. The conference brochure can be found at:
