Recently deployed in more than 11,000 course enrollments across multiple domains including English, Business Management, Criminal Justice and Math.

CCKF, a Dublin-based research and development company today announced that Career Education Corporation (NASDAQ: CECO) has deployed technology from CCKF in one of higher education’s broadest rollouts of adaptive learning.

The adaptive learning technology from CCKF, which was branded as intellipath by Career Education, was pilot-tested earlier this year by students in English composition and mathematics and then expanded to scale with more than 11,000 course enrollments in 300 sections including English composition, mathematics, accounting and business management. As of June 30, 2013, students at Career Education institutions have completed more than 6 million assessment questions, 648,000 lessons, 61,000 knowledge assessments tests and over 212,000 practice and revision lessons.

In its press release July 29, Career Education cited increased rates of passing grades, decreased student withdrawals, improved persistence and retention, and higher levels of engagement, as just some of the student performance metrics it has achieved during the pilot of its new adaptive learning technology.

According to CCKF Founder and CEO David Collery, the company has focused since 2008 on the development of an intelligent engine and platform which could serve the learner, the instructional designer and the teacher.

“Rather than marketing and making public statements about the prospects of adaptive learning, our view over the last few years has been that we should first prove our case by taking on the challenge of a large scale implementation, across a wide range of academic subjects, engaging instructional designers, faculty and students. We wanted the rollout to be broad and deep; the marketing could wait,” Collery said.

Educators from Career Education were able to use the system to design their own curricula across a wide range of domains using legacy content as well as creating new educational content specifically for courses powered by adaptive learning. CCKF’s adaptive learning system is “content agnostic,” meaning it is not restricted to specific courses or subject types and that the user need not adopt commercially-produced content. Instead, the company's adaptive-powered “learning maps” can stretch across a diversity of courses, linking concepts between academic programs and even multiple institutions. With its unique ability to construct these learning maps across any knowledge space or interconnected domains, the system confers upon the faculty the ability to design their own courses, while maintaining proper academic rigor and control.

“Career Education is revolutionizing online learning. Throughout our pilot studies, the intellipath platform made a meaningful difference in the engagement of our students and faculty,” said Scott Steffey, CEO and President of Career Education. “With this new technology, Career Education has effectively combined art and science so instructors in our schools know from minute to minute, which students are succeeding and which need additional instruction. It’s an academic and technological breakthrough that advances cognitive science. Adaptive learning, supported by intellipath technology, allows us to visualize how each student learns through their interaction with the material.”
