Thanksgiving in July Gathers 160 lbs of Food for the Hungry
Wauwatosa, Wi (PRWEB) August 20, 2013 -- Thanksgiving in July? Isn't Thanksgiving supposed to be celebrated in November? Well, to those who go hungry, it doesn't matter what time of year it is. They need food every day of the year. All too often we forget about those who may not have enough to eat throughout the year, and usually consider donating food items when a holiday is around the corner or up and coming.
At AlignLife of Wauwatosa, Dr. Sara Mahalko and Dr. Katie Sam are passionate about helping those in need. During the last two weeks of July, any new patient that brought in two bags of non-perishable food items received a complimentary consultation, exam and x-rays. The response was overwhelming. Over 160lbs of non-perishable foods items were donated to the local Hunger Task Force of Wauwatosa. The collected food was distributed to local families in the area.
"The response we received from the community was humbling. To see 160lbs of food collected in exchange for our services was absolutely amazing," said Dr. Sara Mahalko of AlignLife. "It was our first Thanksgiving in July event that we held. We look to holding the same great event next year. Our goal is to double our food collection."
AlignLife of Wauwatosa is continuously looking for ways to help those in need. Seeing that winter isn’t too far off, AlignLife of Wauwatosa is thrilled about their upcoming Coat Drive in September, where gently used coats will be accepted in exchange for a complimentary consultation and examination for all new patients. Existing patients are also encouraged to donate their gently used coats, too. The Coat Drive runs September 1st - September 15th.
