Venous Insufficiency

By managing their weight and engaging in regular exercise, many Americans can significantly lower their venous insufficiency risk

Winston Salem, NC. Novant Health Vein Specialists is launching a new campaign designed to educate the public about venous insufficiency. According to the Winston-Salem, NC based vein center, millions of Americans are at risk for this form of vein disease, which is associated with swelling, pain, varicose veins, and skin ulcers. The center hopes to encourage patients to address lifestyle factors that could raise their risk for this disorder, leading to a higher level of vascular and overall health.

Dr. Ray Workman, a leading vein doctor at Novant Health Vein Specialists, cites obesity, inactivity, and standing or sitting in the same position for extended periods of time as key risk factors for venous insufficiency. “By managing their weight and engaging in regular exercise, many Americans can significantly lower their venous insufficiency risk,” Dr. Workman explains.

Novant Health Vein Specialists is utilizing social media to help spread the word about the importance of venous insufficiency prevention. The center will be providing information on this topic through their Facebook and Twitter pages throughout the month of August.

Varicose Vein Treatment Options

Varicose veins and spider veins are extremely common in men and women. While spider veins are very small, reddish veins on the surface of the skin, varicose veins are much larger, bulging, tangled veins that may appear bluish in color. Men and women suffer from varicose veins, although women are much more likely to have them.

Today, patients have access to a number of effective varicose vein treatment options. Advancements in technology and medicine have led to the development of effective, minimally invasive treatments that produce optimal results with few side-effects or downtime. These treatments include sclerotherapy, radio frequency ablation, phlebectomy, and endovenous laser ablation.
