Clinton, IA Humane Society: Unlike any race you’ve ever seen, this bi-state canine run/walk will kick-off on September 21, 2013. The event will partner with the DOT to close the main bridge that connects Illinois and Iowa as participating "Mutts" cross over the Mighty Mississippi River.

On Saturday, September 21, 2013, the Clinton Humane Society will host a one-of-a-kind two-mile canine run/walk to benefit the shelter. Mutts on the Mississippi is the only bi-state canine run/walk in the country, with all proceeds going to benefit the Clinton Humane Society. Participants and their four-legged friends will begin in Fulton, IL and will follow the designated course across the Mighty Mississippi River into Iowa, finishing at Lyons Four-Square Park in Clinton, IA. The race will begin at 9:00 a.m. sharp on Saturday morning.

In addition to the race itself, Mutts on the Mississippi will host special events including a professional agility course demonstration, a canine costume contest, raffles, unicyclist, balloon animal artist, a variety of local dog-related merchandise, as well as the area’s best food vendors. Each participant will receive a Mutts on the Mississippi t-shirt and exclusive stuffed goodie bag. And don’t forget the dogs! Each canine partner will be presented with their very own commemorative event bandana.

The Hwy 136 Bridge will be closed to vehicle traffic the day of the event, giving race participants a unique opportunity to cross into Iowa among a crowd of other people and dogs. Those attending the event may park on the Iowa side of the river at Main Avenue and Harding Street in Clinton. A shuttle will be available to take participants and their dogs over the river to the starting line in Fulton.

Participants are encouraged to attend a welcome reception and pick up their packets on Friday, September 20, from 5:00 – 9:00 p.m. at the Moose Lodge in Clinton. Guests will enjoy hors d’oeurves, receive event information, and have the chance to meet other participants at the reception. Late registration will also take place during this time.

Race participants may register online at http://www.clintonhumanesociety.org. All dogs must have proof of rabies vaccination in order to participate.
