Hycrete Demonstrates Flooring Protection for Healthcare Applications
CARLSTADT, N.J. (PRWEB) August 21, 2013 -- Hycrete, Inc., a leader in waterproofing and corrosion protection technologies for concrete, is proud to highlight the completion of two signature projects utilizing Hycrete V1000 to protect floor finishes from moisture vapor. Hycrete V1000 (formerly Hycrete System V), was created in response to demand from architects and contractors for a warranted system that would enable floor finishes to be installed on time, even during fast-track construction schedules, and within flooring manufacturers’ specifications for acceptable moisture levels in the concrete.
Hycrete V1000 is a patented, comprehensive concrete admixture approach which blocks concrete pores that are penetrable by damaging liquid and water vapor. By limiting water ingress Hycrete reduces the relative humidity of concrete slabs and reduces moisture vapor transfer (measured as moisture vapor emission rate). Benefits include warranted performance for complete peace-of-mind, reduced drying time after re-wetting, reduced delays, and avoidance of disruptive and costly repairs.
The Southern California Telemedicine Learning Center at UC San Diego School of Medicine in San Diego, CA used Hycrete V1000 to protect the slab-on-grade (classroom, laboratory, and office space) as well as the auditorium and quad bridges. According to Andrew Pearl, Project Manager for Swinerton Builders: “Hycrete V1000 was easy to use and allowed us to install the flooring on time. Despite being exposed to rain and fire sprinkler testing, the concrete slab moisture vapor emission levels were low enough to install the cork flooring system per the manufacturer's specifications.”
Prince William Hospital in Haymarket, VA is completing a $100,000,000 expansion, designed by Gresham Smith & Partners, and built by Brasfield & Gorrie, Inc., a leading contractor of hospitals in the US. The construction team selected Hycrete to protect the flooring on five floors of the hospital, including the slab-on-grade of the first floor, from moisture vapor issues. The elevated slabs are lightweight concrete composite metal decks and the slab-on-grade is traditional concrete over a vapor retarder on compacted base. These two applications posed a very high risk on fast-track construction projects in the past, and would often dictate change orders for topical barrier systems that can run two to three times the cost of the Hycrete integral approach.
Brasfield & Gorrie chose Hycrete on this project, not wanting to chance moisture vapor transmission problems in sensitive hospital facilities. The concrete is at an acceptable moisture vapor emission rate (MVER), enabling the flooring to be installed properly and on time.
Hycrete V1000 is being used in a variety of applications (i.e., slabs-on-grade and elevated slabs) and project types (i.e., schools, hospitals, and offices) throughout the country to address concerns about moisture vapor-related damage to floor finishes, providing owners, designers and builders with the peace-of-mind of knowing flooring is installed properly and on time.
