Guitar Control, the leader in comprehensive DVD-based courses, and free YouTube lessons, announces the release of "Lead Guitar Lesson - Supercharged Soloing Sample -- Melodic Textures," the latest in their series of free instructional videos that are available on YouTube.
In this video, Claude Johnson, the founder of Guitar Control, offers a peek into his latest DVD-based course "Supercharged Soloing Made Simple." As the name suggests, this new course will provide a foundation for playing lead guitar and explain the techniques that result in powerful and imaginative solos.
Soloing is more than running through scales, stringing riffs together, and sampling melodic passages. Its essence is improvisation, the on-the-spot creation of unique musical passages. In this preview, Claude begins his exploration of repeating note patterns, and explains how they can add melodic colors, what he calls "textures," to a solo.
In this video's example, the techniques are simple. It's a basic, quick, 4 note progression, where notes are produced by "hammering on" and "pulling off" the strings, thus accelerating the passage. Such licks can be repeated to emphasize the established melody or to begin a departure toward another line of thought. These licks can serve to establish the foundation of a solo, by providing a musical "texture" that grounds, and provides a launching point for, the solo, something that novice guitarists find difficult to accomplish.
Claude Johnson is the Founding Father of Guitar Control. A gifted and accomplished guitarist, Claude is a down-to-earth teacher who cuts to the chase and makes things simple. So, "Supercharged Soloing Made Simple" is aptly named. And the example detailed in this preview is a wonderful introduction to thinking and playing like an accomplished soloist. The course itself, of course, will flesh out the rest.
