Students Using EIM Orthopedic Certified Specialist (OCS) Test Prep Course Have 87% Pass Rate
Louisville, KY (PRWEB) August 21, 2013 -- Physical Therapists who completed the Evidence In Motion (EIM) Orthopedic Certified Specialist (OCS) test prep course excelled at the exam, receiving an 87% pass rate. The self-paced course is web-based and offers students an interactive, media-rich way to prepare effectively for the exam.
Course participants performed 13% higher than the overall national pass rate for all specialty designation tests offered by the American Physical Therapy Association. The 16-week self-study program is typically started four-to-five months prior to the OCS exam and integrates journal articles, online video presentations, Mind-Maps, weekly summaries, and additional online resources.
“We wanted to create a very effective tool for students that let’s them customize their test preparation. The course encourages students to deviate from the schedule, giving them more time to focus on their specific areas of weakness and less time on their strong suits,” states David Browder, PT, DPT, OCS, EIM faculty member and course creator. “It’s clear from the results that the course has been successful. We’re very proud of the achievements of these students and know this is a direct result of the hard work spent getting ready for the OCS exam.”
A regional approach is used throughout the curriculum that includes: test taking strategies, upper extremities, cervical and thoracic spines, lower extremities, lumbar spine and pelvis, critical inquiry, and miscellaneous topics and review. The online course is open to all licensed physical therapists that, upon completion, received 58 contact hours from the EIM Institute of Health Professions. Participants will have the opportunity to bounce ideas and questions off one another in the “OCS-preppers” online forum and will receive weekly summaries of the most “need to know” information. The forum allows students to engage with one another and serves as another resource when dealing with certain questions and test sections.
The course, while unique for each student, features a pre-test, post-test and weekly online quizzes in a format similar to the OCS exam. This stimulates the exam environment, identifies knowledge gaps and assesses learning.
The OCS Test Prep Course is available online at http://www.evidenceinmotion.com/educational-offerings/course/ocs-test-prep-course/ and can be purchased for $495. Practices interested in purchasing multiple copies of the course can contact EIM directly at info(at)eimpt(dot)com for a group discount.
