Centenary's approach to integrating learning inside and outside of the classroom is different. Centenary leaders turn learning into action and personal growth into public good through World Houses.
Shreveport, LA (PRWEB) August 19, 2013
Centenary College entered into innovative partnerships with Community Renewal International, the Fuller Center for Housing of Northwest, LA, and Shreveport Green today. President David Rowe joined Mr. Mack McCarter of CRI, Mr. Lee Jeter of the Fuller Center, and Mrs. Donna Curtis of Shreveport Green for the official signing of the agreement. The partnership will directly benefit Centenary first-year students living in World Houses on campus.
“Centenary's approach to integrating learning inside and outside of the classroom is different,” said Centenary President David Rowe. “Centenary leaders turn learning into action and personal growth into public good through World Houses. We are honored to partner with organizations that recognize the need to develop future leaders who actively work to better their communities.”
World Houses are common residences with a common purpose—a place where students can explore through service and leadership one of the world’s greatest needs. Each World House has partnered with a community non-profit organization with which to make an immediate, positive impact on the surrounding areas: environmental sustainability (Shreveport Green), peace (Community Renewal International), and social justice (Fuller Center).
Following the signing of the agreement, students along with their community partners traveled to three separate work sites for the first inaugural World House Service Day. Students worked on physically improving the areas with painting, beautification, and gardening efforts.
Looking forward, the community organizations and World Houses will work together to increase renewal efforts and outreach in Shreveport-Bossier as well as bring global thought leaders to campus as guest speakers.
