Regal Magazine: Ricky Williams Transitions Smoothly into Retirement…Again
Houston, Texas (PRWEB) August 21, 2013 -- Critics and sportswriters have consistently used polarizing terms to describe former Heisman Trophy winning running back Ricky Williams Never quite living up to the hype of his record setting college career, Williams turned into a good running back in the pros for several teams like the Dolphins, Ravens and Saints.
However, for a player that had many other interests off the football field, retiring from the NFL for good has allowed him to use his celebrity to promote the Ricky Williams Foundation, and has now led to a job with ESPN’s Longhorn Network. Williams recently sat down with Regal Magazine to discuss life after football for the former polarizing player.
“" always wanted to give back so I figured the way to do that is set up a foundation," Williams told Regal Magazine.
The foundation is set up to help disadvantaged youth in Austin, Texas by inspiring and empowering them. His foundation provides inspirational workshops and educational after school programs for low-income children. Williams became inspired to help the less fortunate as a result of his single-parent upbringing in San Diego.
“What I noticed (was) that you give money to someone off the street asking for money, yeah you might get an emotional return but it won’t return on you,” Williams said. “But if you give money to things you enjoy what you get back in return is something greater.”
Now that his foundation is helping low-income students achieve something greater, ESPN is allowing the former Texas Longhorn the opportunity to do something great for them and his alma mater.
The Longhorn Network recently held a contest for Longhorn fans to win the chance to do yoga with Williams.
Furthermore, Williams is reportedly taking his talents to the sidelines, becoming a running backs coach at University of the Incarnate Word.
